Character study of Rose Quartz

I could be very wrong about a lot of this. If you think I am, I’d like to hear your interpretation of Pink Diamond. 🙂

I’d like to focus on her reactions to and mentality about love. It’s obvious she loved Pearl. (I lost it at “Don’t ever stop!” and then they almost fused akslajal) But I always wondered what kind of love it was. Because it was different from her love for Greg. Rose was always an authority figure and mentor with the gems. She didn’t have to be that way with Greg. Greg made her want a different life. Maybe it’s because that was something she hadn’t experienced yet or it just didn’t feel right with anyone else.

But Pearl did sweep Rose off her feet. She showed her things she hadn’t seen before. That’s bound to make you feel something. And I always wondered what Rose thought about Pearl’s reaction to her relationship with Greg. It was very blatant, obvious jealousy and Rose acted like it was totally normal. This is probably because as well-meaning as Rose is, she’s not very good at reading people. She was inexperienced and naive in a lot of ways. Plus, it was hard for her to be genuine. Maybe it’s just me but sometimes her reactions to Pearl seem more like “you’re sweet and cute and I’m proud of you. I’m glad you’re here for me” not “I’m in love with you” like it was for Pearl. Sometimes she treated their relationship very casually, especially after meeting Greg, and I think that’s what made Pearl feel the worst. She was farther gone for Pink than vice versa, in my opinion.

It just seemed very easy for her to fall for Greg (and I guess other humans before him) even when Pearl was right there still being supportive and loyal and lovely and all the sudden Mr. Music Man comes along and changes everything. I mean, I get it, Greg is a perfect human being, but you understand what I’m saying, right? Like Pearl has said, Rose was a little selfish but not on purpose. I don’t think she realized she was doing it. She was so used to her life as Pink Diamond and that probably changed her outlook on relationships.

It’s not that it was Pearl’s right to be with her if she didn’t want that, but a little explanation and communication would’ve been nice. She wasn’t aware how much she was hurting Pearl by not saying where she was and what she wanted. She thought everything was fine because we’re on Earth and anything can happen. Why not hang out with this human and have some fun?

Even when she wasn’t a spoiled brat, she was very…innocently entitled – that’s the best way I can describe it. She didn’t know any better. At first, she took her and Greg’s relationship for granted too. She treated it too lightly and that’s when they talked it out and decided what to do. If it weren’t for Greg, she never would have learned how to love like that. Up until that point, maybe she was still kind of thinking like a Diamond, just in her own sweet, innocent way. “These things are mine and they make me happy.” You can tell by how she seemed to view humans during the start of her and Greg’s relationship.

But really, her characterization makes so much sense. It’s amazing how she developed and learned but you can still see that young Pink Diamond inside of her who just wanted her own planet. I’m not sure if she was completely naive or the exact opposite. She didn’t understand how to treat people at first but maybe that’s because she’s so much older and experienced than humans. She thinks that since they haven’t seen what she has, they are simpler and young at heart. She thought she wouldn’t be able to connect with them fully because of that innocence. Until Greg :>

Rose seemed very free-spirited. She just wanted to experience life and love any way she could. And though she wanted Pearl and every other gem “below her” to be their own person and not give her special treatment, I think there was still a small part of her that thought of Pearl as “hers” but not necessarily in a completely romantic way. I can see Rose treating things, even people, in her life as something interesting that amuses her. I have no clue how to say this without making Rose sound terrible. It’s way more subtle than I can describe. Because Rose didn’t belittle people. She loved how complex life was. But at first, it must have been confusing for her when she was no longer Pink. Pearl was also almost dangerously loyal and has only recently started fighting for herself, not just her Diamond or Steven.

I love them all. They’re amazing. They were written perfectly. And they’re flawed in a beautifully human way. I’m not sure if I said this the way I wanted to, but I did find this post that does an excellent job of explaining Rose. I recommend reading that too ^^

So. Lars. | Steven Universe â˜…

There were new episodes of Steven Universe and they were great so of course my obsession resurfaced. One highlight of the new episodes was seeing Lars again and how much he’s changed since Steven had to leave him on Homeworld. I forgot some things about him and I watched this entire video compilation of every time Lars showed up so you don’t have to! I forgot exactly when he stopped being…terrible, and honestly, it’s kind of worse than I thought. It’s a very slow process, but I believe we’re getting there!

Throughout the first half of the video, Lars acts the same. He goes through stuff that other people would have learned from and subsequently changed their behavior. But Lars has such deep-rooted insecurities and issues with popularity that he pushes everything down, puts on a persona to seem “cool,” and hurts people in the process. When he’s supposed to apologize or recognize he’s being a jerk, his reaction is “Whatever, I don’t care” (when he does care, maybe too much, he just doesn’t say it). I do think he learned lessons throughout the show, he just never implemented any new behavior. This is why I didn’t like Lars. For most of the episodes he’s in, he wasn’t enjoyable to watch and the whole time I would be thinking about how Sadie deserves better.

It takes about 40 minutes of this video for him to actually learn a lesson and change. It took Steven switching brains with him for something to happen. He stopped saying mean things and was nicer everyone. But then he was too busy worrying about the Cool Kids and baking to really be “better” so…boy’s still got issues but that’s fine, I guess. He’s workin’ on it.

The interesting thing about Lars is he’s always been like this but there have also been little moments and hints that show he’s not all bad. Sadie knows him better than anyone because around her, he’s just relaxed and doesn’t pretend to be “cool.” (It would have been nice to maybe see that side of him more often but I digress.) Still, it wasn’t surprising to see him blow up on the Sun Incinerator. He’s had moments of weakness like that before when he hid on the spaceship or when his friendship with Ronaldo was ruined.

It would have been really great to see him progress and become the captain of the Off Colors. I do wish they included that somehow. But I have never enjoyed seeing Lars onscreen more than I did when watching “Lars of the Stars” and “Jungle Moon”! Because…he’s still a brat…but like, in an enjoyable way now? And he takes initiative, which is new and refreshing. He’s definitely more considerate than he used to be when you look at how he interacts with the Off Colors. Ever since becoming a pink zombie and wanting to be someone who deserved it, he’s shown growth. That episode specifically really is one of the most important when it comes to Lars’ development. He was hero.

The little things get to me. Him hugging Steven instead of doing their failed high-five thing or even “Bingo-bongo!” That was a nice touch. I like how some random, embarrassing thing he said one time has turned into his catchphrase. Thinking Sadie having fun was meant to spite him was a low point and I’m hoping we’ve moved on from that BUT ANYWAY. I really really really want him to improve even more.

Being in space and fighting for your life as an alien fugitive with new pink skin and a wormhole in your head on a planet inhabited by rock people is not the easiest circumstance to combat your insecurities in. I doubt he had time to really think “Maybe I shouldn’t care what people say about me. I’m a freaking space pirate now! Let them talk.” SO for now, I’ll give him a pass, but the next time we meet Lars I want things to be a little better because there’s so much potential for him. This could be a great story with wonderful character development or it could flop. He’s already had a lot of development but sometimes you can tell it’s still old Lars. Being a sly thief in space won’t excuse him from anything when he gets home.

My hope is when he gets back, everyone will be so glad he’s OK that he’ll feel comfortable enough to calm down and accept himself. Because the people in Beach City do like him. And now so do I!

The new season of OUAT is good but…

I thought I wouldn’t like this season. Most of the cast is gone. I wasn’t sure if it would feel like Once Upon A Time anymore. The story itself feels kinda lazy because it’s basically a twist on the first season. BUT even knowing these things, I can’t hate it. Nostalgia? Possibly. Hear me out, though.

Image result for older henry season 7 ouat gifIt does feel like Once Upon A Time. The tone of the show didn’t rely that much on Snow, David, and Emma like I thought it did. The magic is still there. And to be honest, I was nervous about Henry and how they would write him as an adult. But I was worried about nothing because I like this Henry! I was worried about Hook because I didn’t know how they would justify taking him away from Emma. But that’s been settled so I’m OK for now. I know this new era has just started, but I have hope and I am looking forward to the future of OUAT.

So what don’t I like? Well. I mentioned above that I’m not in love with the writing and there are multiple reasons for that. I’ll delve into one of them.

Earlier in the show, they taught us about the Untold Stories. This opened up (pun intended) 🎶a whole new world🎶 of fairytales! We could bring in new, interesting characters we might not have heard of before. We can spice it up and see how these obscure fairytales fit in with the remaining cast. There was a lot of potential there.

Instead, we have a remake of a retelling. Which isn’t bad, but it’s disappointing. I’m glad they’re involving Tiana! That’s new. But we already have a Cinderella. She got her happy ending. We already have an Alice. She got hers. We already have an evil stepmother… etc. etc.

BTW Cinderella’s fairy godmother has the worst luck ever, no matter what reality she seems to be in.

I know what they’re getting at because, in the beginning, Young Henry (I still find myself calling him “our Henry” in my head so it’ll be a while until I’m completely used to this one) was saying how there are multiple realms and multiple Snow Whites, for example. It’s not that it doesn’t make sense, it’s that I feel like we’re missing out.

If you want to write a story where Alice isn’t the good protagonist searching for her true love in a genie bottle, fine. Be edgy. If you really really want to hold onto those fairytale tropes involving Cinderella, you can, you’ve just done it before.

I miss these two

I’m not saying it’s terrible. I’m not saying it’s inspired. It’s OK and I like it. I’ll only stop watching this when it ends so rehashed storylines/characters or not, I’m a Oncler for life.

On an unrelated note, I’m still wondering if they’ll be including Robin or Gideon in this season. What do you think? And how old would they be?

Steven Universe Season 2 Discussion | (。♥‿♥。)

jiiq4k4I saw episodes “Say Uncle” through “The Answer” of season 2 in Steven Universe. Yes, I know, that’s not the full season. But that’s all Hulu has right now! Anyway, I wanna talk about it. So if you haven’t seen seasons 1 and 2 of this show, please do so before reading this.

Anyone still reading? Good.

While “Say Uncle” is not my favorite episode ever, I can appreciate it. (FYI I personally am not a big Uncle Grandpa person.) What I liked: the foreshadowing for an Uncle Grandpa/Clarence crossover, the fourth wall breaking, and this beautiful gif that came out of the episode:

Image result for our ship steven universe gifThat can apply to them in several ways… Sadly, there wasn’t much Sadie in this season. Therefore, not a lot of Lars either. I’m not a huge fan of them as a couple but I still missed them this season.

BUT! One cool thing we got was the ‘Story for Steven’ episodes! Yay, flashbacks and backstories! I admit, the first time I saw Greg and Rose’s love story, I thought it was generic, rushed, and a way to cater to the audience (please correct me if I am so very wrong). But in the other ‘Story for Steven’ episode called “We Need To Talk”, they addressed their relationship in a practical way, pointing out their differences and even mentioning how fast they moved. So that was cool.

Another thing that got highlighted (at least to me) in those episodes was Pearl’s obvious friend-zone-y-ness. It’s sad, really, how much she’s gone through. You’re told your whole life you’re just a decoration, but then comes along a beautiful warrior who wants you to help her start a revolution. You train yourself how to fight, win the war alongside your friends, and hope that beautiful warrior will love you back. But she chooses someone from a different species entirely and disappears. Well, not really disappears. Becomes half of her son whom she had with a human. Now your crush lives inside a half human boy you have to spend time with every day and not be creepy towards. UGH!

Pearl does seem annoying sometimes, but I get her now.

Lion wasn’t around a lot. I wanted more evidence for the “Lion is Rose” theory. Oh well. We did get Fusions, though! That was exciting. If you wanna see my post about all of the Fusions that have been in this show so far and what the gemstones look like in real life, CLICK HERE.

I didn’t mention in my season 1 review all of the things this show does to showcase different sexualities and gender identity. There are a lot of beautiful messages in this show about family and growing up, but I think the more subtle ones are the best. There’s Pearl’s crush on Rose, Stevonnie… Have I mentioned I love this show?

Something I didn’t love: the theme near the end during the credits. Those lyrics are very sad. Self-loathing, almost. I mean, I get the meaning behind “Nothing Like You”, but it is sad. It is a gorgeous song, though.

And I hate to say it because this opinion contradicts itself, but the way they handled Garnet this season was kind of…okay. I prefer the more mysterious, quiet, season 1 Garnet. Because we know she’s a Fusion now, that kinda stopped. Garnet was very exposed this season and talked to Steven about everything and was surprisingly openly emotional toward him, like, a lot. The reason this opinion contradicts itself is because….Garnet was very exposed this season and talked to Steven about everything and was surprisingly openly emotional toward him, like, a lot and it was awesome!!! But a smidgen out of character.

Image result for i love you garnet steven universe gif

Anyway, “Keeping It Together” was a fantastic episode. I love Garnet and Steven scenes. And this whole episode was basically them talking. Finding stuff. And bonding even more. This episode had Garnet scared too. SCARED! Have we seen her this freaked out before?? It was heartbreaking and amazing all at the same time! The Garnet-focused episodes are always my favorite. Like “The Answer” which seems to me like a very fan requested episode (which was probably why they made it).

Fun fact – Garnet was technically the first Homeworld mixed race couple.

We learned a lot about Gem Fusions and Garnet and Pearl and Amethyst grew a little. Connie is using Rose’s sword now and is training to fight. Garnet and Pearl were fighting for a little while. And that episode ended in a way I should’ve expected. “I wish things worked out like they did in cartoons.”

Um. But. You are in a–Never mind. That’s another thing I admire about this show. It’s very realistic, though dealing with completely unrealistic things. It took multiple episodes for Garnet and Pearl to make up. Sadie wasn’t forced to sing in front of people, she’s just practicing on her own for now. And that is fantastic!

Peridot is now our…friend? I don’t know if I’m okay with that. She’s kinda annoying. She’ll help us progress and she’s adorable but still annoying. I guess that’s the point. She’ll grow.

The pacing between episodes confused me a little. We’d be chilling at home one day, planning a play (Jamie came back! And his crush on Garnet? lol) and the next day, we’re looking for Jasper and Lapis in the ocean. It was a little strange for a while how they wouldn’t focus on that for a couple episodes and then all the sudden be like, “Oh, we gotta find Malachite! Poor Lapis is probably exhausted!”

There were half as many episodes in this season than last time, so this isn’t fair, but I’m gonna say it. I prefer season 1. Season 2 was epic and touching and filled with a lot of great songs, but I got a soft spot for beginnings.

What did you think of this season? Did you love it like me, or could they have done better? Please, no spoilers for future episodes.

What Steven Universe Fusions & Gemstones Actually Look like

Steven_Universe_logo

SPOILER ALERT! DON’T READ THIS UNLESS YOU’VE SEEN SEASONS 1 AND 2!

After watching Steven Universe, I found myself wondering what the actual gemstones of all the characters looked like. So I looked up garnets, pearls, amethysts, etc. But then I wanted to know if the Gem Fusions’ names were picked at random or if they had a purpose. That’s what I will be showing you today. I think we should start with the very first Fusion we ever saw.

opalOpal_Gen_3_by_Lenhi

When Opal first appeared, I was so happy! These two have such different personalities, but that’s what made their fusion work so well (until it didn’t). I loved her weapon, her design, the way she spoke. It helps that the real gemstone this fusion was based on make sense. (And it’s my birthstone.) The colors of their gems are beautiful as it is, and the opal has all of them and more. Now, let’s move on to another fusion of the main three.

sugilite

Sugalite_PNGAh, Sugilite. The Fusion I was sure had two l’s in its name. Honestly, I thought the sugilite gemstone would be sparklier because, I mean, look at those first two! Bootiful! But, once again, the color palette made sense. I don’t think they picked these at random now. The creators, writers, whatevers of this show put a lot of thought into this and I can really appreciate that. I can also appreciate the next Fusion.

garnet

GarnetByKmesEverybody’s favorite Fusion/character/Gem/everything. At least, that’s what I’m guessing. You could be an Amethyst person, that’s cool. But, really look at this! Look at it. They’re all so pretty… I love it. I love it even more now. I could gush all day about this character and her gemstones, but I think the next Fusion should get the spotlight, don’t you?

alexandrite

Alexandrite_Current_Regen_by_LenhiAlexandrite was the first Fusion we saw made up of more than two Gems (that we knew of at the time. We didn’t know about Garnet yet). We didn’t see the dance, but we saw the final product. And can I just take a moment to say how brilliant this show is? Not just because the gems are all gorgeous, and the characters are brilliant. This is a fantastic show. And it’s moments that have Fusions like Alexandrite in them that really drive that home. Anyway. I’m getting carried away. Let’s move on to the last Fusion involving the main three.

sardonyx

Sardonyx_PNG_EDITThis Fusion made up of Garnet and Pearl is the only one I can think of that isn’t a combination of the gemstone’s colors. It’s more like their skin tones. Again, it’s very pretty, of course. And while Sardonyx was kinda annoying in the show, I can admire her. Just like all of these. Their combined weapons are probably my favorite part. But the final one I have here hasn’t shown her weapon. In fact, this Fusion doesn’t get much screen time.

malachite

Malachite_LenhiThe most destructive Fusion in this show I can think of is Malachite. Don’t let that bright color fool you! This Fusion is a prison. And a very dangerous one, at that. I don’t know yet where this will lead or how long Lapis will have to suffer through it, but nonetheless, I still have to acknowledge how cool their gemstone looks.

So there you have it! I know I left out Pearl and Rose’s Fusion but I don’t think they mentioned her name in season 2, so I technically couldn’t include it.

And I think we got a sneak peak of what Amethyst, Garnet, Rose, and Pearl look like together in that play episode. But we didn’t actually see them, we saw a shadow of a cardboard cut out in their shape. And we didn’t get a name for that one either. So she’s not here. 😦

Stevonnie also isn’t here, but I think their gem is just a Quartz since Connie is a human.

I hope you liked this. I made some of these in MS Paint and I took the best looking gems and pictures of the characters from Google Images. Hopefully you could see all of them. I had a lot of fun making this.

Anyhow, let’s get a discussion going! Please, no spoilers for season 3 and onward. I haven’t gotten there yet. Hulu isn’t very caught up. What do you think of these Fusions? Did they do a good job?

The “Don’t Like, Don’t Watch” Argument and its Flaws

dontlike“Don’t like, don’t watch/read” is an argument that is used often when people can’t agree on something. It’s used sometimes to tell someone to stop complaining about things they don’t like. Because why are you putting so much effort into talking about something you hate? Here I will discuss some uses of said phrase and whether or not it is valid.

This is a possible situation that might be able to use “don’t like, don’t watch” in a good way. Let’s say two friends watch a movie together one night. One person loves it and knows there’s a consistent quality to the film. The other watches half an hour and disagrees with everything. (In this situation, there is no wrong person. Opinions can’t all be the same, so if this happens to you, calm your little fanboy/girl heart.) But if the one who loves the movie said to their friend “If you don’t like it so far, you don’t have to watch the rest” it makes enough sense. Nothing is forcing them to watch this movie he hates.

Judging by their friend’s reaction to everything so far, they can guess that since the whole movie has basically the same tone, message, themes, etc. their friend won’t enjoy the rest. And yes, the reply I wrote in the paragraph above is a nicer and more detailed version of DL,DW, but that’s the point. If DL,DW was actually “don’t like, don’t watch the rest“, in situations like these, it could be valid. Emphasis on could. This could be wrong.

Let’s use DL,DW (the rest) in another scenario. Someone saw the Adventure Time pilot when it aired and he is not a fan. If someone were to use DL,DWTR in this case, would it make sense? No. Because how is he suppose to know the rest of Adventure Time will be the same quality as the pilot? How is Sam suppose to judge the entire show by only watching one episode he didn’t like? I mean, he could, but that would be an unfair judgment. (Side note: It totally is because Adventure Time becomes more awesome later on, but that’s my opinion…)

Sometimes it sounds like users of DL,DW are saying either “unwatch the thing you dislike” or “I don’t like your opinion, so stop voicing it.” I’m not saying the first one is true in any situation, that’s just how it reads sometimes to me. And the latter is most likely the way it is used most of the time. They just don’t explicitly say all that.

DL,DW can be used as a conversation stopper. It can be used when a debate has gotten to the point where Person A disagrees with Person B and they can’t find anything in common. Person A just says “DL,DW” because Person A doesn’t appreciate Person B’s thoughts on the subject and wishes to end the discussion. It also probably won’t work because people don’t like to be shut up and they’re not gonna stop just because you typed a few words.

And another thing!
How am I suppose to know I don’t like something before I even read or watch it?

Let’s say there was a fan fiction written about a homosexual relationship (Let’s say a Johnlock fanfic…just off the top of my head ’cause I’m currently obsessed with that show!) that had “don’t like, don’t read” in its description. Now, in other situations, this argument wouldn’t make sense. How am I suppose to know if I enjoy your story or not from the two sentences you gave me that describe the plot?

But when I see “don’t like, don’t read” in this kind of scenario, I understand what it means. It’s basically a shorter way of saying “If you’re a bigot, don’t read this story to just write hate comments about the main couple and not address my writing skills or anything that actually deserves critique.” And that’s too lengthy, so using “don’t like, don’t read” gives out that message a lot quicker.

Some of my main points are:

This argument is a form of censorship, and censorship is a whole ‘nother discussion, so I won’t go into detail here.

Don’t complain about something just for the sake of complaining about it. Do it because you actually care about the improvement of the thing you don’t like, or the improvement of anything related to it.

“If you don’t like it, then stop” should be used sometimes. But then you get replies like “Don’t tell me what to do!” so I dunno what to say…

Usually, people who say DL,DW are the ones voicing their popular opinions and they don’t want any negativity given to the thing they’re a fan of. But this is not always the case.

Everything can get better over time. It’s not an overnight change. And sometimes change may never happen. You never know what the future of something is for sure. The only thing you can do is give it a chance. But if it comes to the point where you have decided to drop a show or a book, that is entirely up to you. And if you want to continue watching or reading something you don’t like, that is also your choice but I hope you have good reasons.

If someone uses DL,DW too much, they may resort to just accepting problems in media without addressing them. When this happens, the people who consume media and are DL,DW users will not be as helpful. Without some constructive criticism, all of those things you used to complain about will have a hard time improving.

(On a related note, there are times when valid points are being made by an audience and the creators/writers/whoever is in charge just does not listen. They’re stuck in their ways and that sucks.)

Now, in circumstances that take place in chat rooms and the like, I don’t think this phrase should be used at all. If anything, it should be replaced with “I don’t like that you feel this way, but I respect your opinion. I hope we can agree to disagree.” But the world will never become so polite.

This post was inspired by PIEGUYRULZ’s video on this very subject, and I recommend you check out his video and his YouTube channel. He makes a lot of good stuff.

River of Lost Souls | OUAT Season 5B

Image result for ouat season 5bOncers, unite! Season 5B ended a while ago and I still wanna talk about it! First of all. If you’re not watching Once Upon a Time yet, you should. It’s a magical, beautiful, and touching show with the occasional heartbreak. I am all about fairytale retellings, so I love this show! I really really recommend you watch it. But don’t just jump in right now. This is one of those things you need to start from the very beginning. You’ll get lost and certain things won’t matter to you if you’re not caught up.

From this point on, spoilers will be happening. Got it? Great.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So. The Underworld. That was fun, right? A lot of people were thrown into the River of Lost Souls because of some of our favorite characters. So again, fun, huh? Let’s see. There was Milah, Gaston, Charming’s twin brother, Aunt Em, Peter Pan… Some I was okay with. Some not.
Milah, in my opinion, redeemed herself. I was looking forward to her moving on and finally seeing her son after all this time. But I guess not, ’cause Gold needed to be a jerk. I’ve made my feelings about Gold pretty clear in the past… Let’s just say I didn’t like this.
Verdict:
Should not have been lost forever!
Gaston did seem bad, and when you think about it, he was doing what he thought was best for the kingdom. No, that doesn’t make him torturing someone okay all of the sudden, but still. He was kinda 50/50 for me. I felt bad for him when he was first turned into a rose (which is super confusing. Did he die then or when the rose died? Important questions, people!). I’m not really sure.
Verdict:
Maybe deserved it.
James, Prince Charming, whatever you wanna call him! I’m okay with him being in the River of Lost Souls. That sounds terrible. But there was really no hope for him.
Verdict:
Yeah, why not?
Aunt Em. I mean. Do we need to go into this? Of course, I don’t like this! All she did was try to blow a kiss into a bottle. She didn’t deserve to be turned into a liquid.
Verdict:
Absolutely not!
Peter Pan, I can see multiple reasons why they got rid of him. 1) He kinda deserved it and 2) Robbie Kay, the guy who plays him, is in his twenties. Peter Pan died a while ago. If this guy matured any more, it wouldn’t make sense. He’s dead. Why does he look older? As a villain, I liked Peter Pan in this show, but they just couldn’t keep him around forever.
Verdict:
Deserved to be lost.
I think that was all of them. If I missed any, tell me. I may have forgotten one or two. Like I said, I love this show and this season in particular was one of the darker and sadder. Well, duh, we’re close to Tartarus. Of course, it’s gonna be dark. But it was fantastic! A lot of people moved on, though. I just wanted to talk about those who didn’t. I could make a whole post about Cora moving on if you wanna. I might save that for later. (I didn’t like when she moved on, to give you a hint of what that post would be like.)
Go ahead and share with me some of your thoughts on the last season of Once Upon a Time! Who did you think deserved to move on or not? I’d love to discuss with you.
Thanks for reading! 😀
Ugly Betty Season 3 Discussion
225px-ugly_betty_season_3This is the season 3 poster? The last one was much better. Anyway. I’ve already finished the whole show and I’m writing this based off of my notes. So I promise there won’t be any season 4 spoilers in here, but for season 3 (episodes “The Manhattan Project” to “The Fall Issue”) there will be spoilers.
If you haven’t finished everything up until the season 3 finale of Ugly Betty, don’t read this.
Also, just in case I let something slip about future episodes, I’ll just be writing down my notes. They won’t be structured in any way, but at least they won’t ruin anything for you and they’ll get the point across!
I thought it was too easy for Daniel to be the father! DJ’s story is so heartbreaking and I knew he wouldn’t last very long (he was a child actor that just kinda showed up half way through the show) but his and Daniel’s relationship was just so cute.
Willie keeps picking guys who are taken.
Why was Jesse interesting to Betty beyond that initial “Oh, you’re attractive” reaction? Not a good fit. Glad he didn’t stay around long. Betty needs a break from dudes! My thoughts leading up to her meeting him were “Please don’t be a boy. Please don’t be a boy. Please don’t be a boy. The door opens Oh, great! A boy! And he’s a musician, too! This’ll end well!” No offense to any musicians out there, it’s just that male musicians have reputations in TV shows that annoy me.
Detty might happen soon, I can feel it.
To Jesse, “snow day” is an adjective, so I don’t know if “God, Betty, you’re so beautiful!” was really the compliment she thought it was.
Her family expects too much of and takes advantage of her sometimes. Yes, Betty didn’t go to Hilda’s reopening party but did they want her to lose her job/a great opportunity? Hilda: “I had to set up everything by myself!” …Yeah, it’s your business. But you have your father and son helping you, what are you talking about! Stop complaining!
I’m not loving the Amanda side stories. I know she’s a nice person under the stupidity, irresponsibility, and ego. But sill. Eh. I don’t really like that she and Betty are roomies/friends(?) now.
Alexis’s assistant showed up again. Didn’t miss or think about him at all. He kinda sucked.
Alexis left so the actress could have her baby, right? Or was it something else?
Dumb popular kids took Justin’s friend away!
Some of Ignacio’s lessons weren’t the greatest this season. “You could learn something from Amanda.” Amanda! What – fun? “You should be here 24/7 for your family.” I guess she can’t work overtime otherwise everything falls apart. I did really worry about him, though. Stupid heart attack.
I love how Marc’s dreams and relationships with Betty and Cliff were focused on. Speaking of which, I knew they would break up! They were so different. Man, that sucks. I liked them. Why’d you have to be so stupid, Marc?
The treatment for Stuart didn’t work! Christina’s basically doing this pregnancy thing for nothing. But at least Willie’s being good. (And it’s a boy!)
Proposing to her was a bit much, Henry. You two had your time together, you were adorable, and now you have your baby and Tucson and whatever! It’s done. I think after that rejection it has to be. But can we just talk about how big of a mistake making him the father was!? That was a stupid choice on the writers’ part. They were perfect for each other. I mean, now Detty can be a thing, but…it’s Henry! I can’t stress enough how I much I ship them.
I’m disappointed in how Gio reacted to their break up. Bit harsh. Not completely surprising, though, because we know how he acted when he lost his job and it was Betty’s fault.
Not sure why Betty had to stay so late and get contacts at Willie’s party. She had finished what she had to, she could’ve gone home (to her dad having a heart attack).
You know, now that I think about it, I was sad when Gio was introduced because I was worried he’d come back and they’d be a thing. I wasn’t looking forward to them dating.
Why did she have to go on that date with Jesse? How could she not tell he was “me, me, me” all the time? Not only did he interrupt her many times, he has himself as a ring tone! (And who was that person calling him that he wanted to avoid?)
Yay, Amanda and Marc are living together! Cute. Also, they made out this season, sooo… Okaaaay…
Betty could’ve gotten home sooner, but still God, Hilda! But Betty didn’t need to move out of the house in the first place. That was dumb. She made a lot of bad decisions this season.
They didn’t really focus on Christina for a while. I missed her. I didn’t really know how she or her husband felt about things for a bit.
Matt’s nice I guess. For now. Maybe I like them. I think he likes her more than the other way around. And they just feel like friends, honestly. Not a couple.
FRIENDING your EX on Facebook! Not okay, Suarez! Not okay.
Poor Archie. This season brought out a lot of Hilda’s bad qualities.
I knew Molly was dying! That’s so devastating. They were so adorable together. And of course she died during the award ceremony. I was dreading that.
All of Betty’s boyfriends had a thing. Sandwiches, “Just something I know”,  “It’s a bad joke”. Walter? IDK what his was.
Betty and Henry said a proper goodbye (after saying goodbye a million times already). Now Bitter Matt will make her job hard. Why did he want that job in the first place? His dad said, “My job made me the way I am now.” He said his dad was the Devil! BTW the actress who plays his mother must be fantastic at playing rude, stuck up mothers. That’s what she is on Big Bang Theory, too.
DO WE KNOW THE BABY CLAIRE GAVE UP!?
Poor Marc… 😦
Except for hiring a hit man, everything involving Willie this season finale was great! Nothing went her way, and I loved it.
I don’t really get Hilda and Archie, but hey. At least he isn’t her type. Now her life will be more…practical? Is that the word I’m looking for?
Could Marc and Betty be co-editors? That’s what I thought they were gonna do because they said they were stronger together. But instead, “joining forces” meant resigning together. And forcing their bosses to flip a coin.
During the first season, I never would’ve guessed we’d focus on Marc so much. I’m liking it.
Yay, Betty! Promotion! Woo hoo! And…more work… Boo.
Claire is quickly becoming my favorite person ever.
Matt’s father seemed really nice at first. Disappointing.
So, yes. Those were the notes I had about this season. I hope you will join me in the comments. I’d love to talk about any of the things mentioned above. 🙂
Sherlock Series 1 Review | Me: â™Ľâ—Ąâ™Ľ
Image result for series 1 sherlock posterI don’t know what I can say to sell you on this show that thousands of people haven’t already said. It’s just fantastic. And boy, do I have some opinions on this baby. So. SPOILER ALERT for series 1!
Sucks I didn’t see this earlier. I don’t usually find myself interested in crime shows or mystery novels anymore. I had a Nancy Drew phase a couple years back but then after a while, they all seemed to end the same way. Not that I was expecting to dislike this show. It has a great cast and it looked impressive. Not to mention it has a big following which tells you right away there’s something there. I had very little exposure to Sherlock Holmes before watching this, whether it was in book, movie, or show form. I knew basic things about it (catch phrases, some characters, and the like), but I was still a noob.
But enough with the introduction!
The first thing I remember seeing Benedict Cumberbatch in was “Star Trek: Into Darkness”. Then after that it was like, whoa I see this guy everywhere now! But watching Sherlock, I never pictured him as Khan. I just thought every once and a while, So he was the voice of Smaug.
With Martin Freeman, for most of the first episode, I thought, Bilbo, what are you doing solving crimes? But by the end of the episode, I saw these actors as the characters they’re playing. Bravo to all the actors! They do a fantastic job bringing these people to life.
I don’t know when this stopped but I remember only feeling for the characters because I was looking at it through the eyes of the other characters, focusing on how they would feel in that moment. Now, of course, I care about everyone. I don’t know what was wrong with me!
I really liked Sherlock’s character evaluations and stuff in the beginning. That and his insanity sold me on him. My favorite characters are usually the smart ones or the ones that just know what they’re doing. This man fits that description! And he’s hilarious but gosh, he talks fast. I need close captions while watching this thing.
I love everyone for different reasons, but if I had to pick a favorite favorite character, it would be John. He seems the most normal. Poor guy has been through a lot. I can’t believe he puts up with his flatmate. But they do balance each other out well. Crazy and average (average being a compliment) go well together, I suppose.
Some people think they go VERY well together if you catch my meaning…
After the first few episodes, I could totally see why people were such big Johnlock shippers. Honestly, I could watch these two talk to each other all day. And really, your stance on their relationship kinda depends on how you view people who are constantly shouting, “I’m not gay!” (Y’know, John, you don’t have to be gay to like people of the same sex. Just saying.)
There’s a lot more about this to discuss but Johnlock deserves its own post, so I think I’ll stop here.
If you know me, you’re aware that I love origin stories and beginnings. That’s probably why I like “A Study in Pink” so much. They did such a good job of introducing everyone and setting the mood for the entire show.
I love the cinematography and overall feel. The OST is also fantastic. A++. And I don’t think I care as much about the Who done it? part of the mysteries as how they solve it.
Besides, the one who done it is usually the same guy.
I knew about him from my limited knowledge of Sherlock Holmes, but I didn’t know what they would do with him. I did not understand what Moriarty’s deal was. I knew he was insane, but why he targeted Sherlock specifically, I had no clue.
And I hate to go from a criminal mastermind to a normal girl, but I’m gonna because I can’t think of a segway. Molly seems nice. And she’ll probably be a really great character in the future. But I hope her personality doesn’t just involve her crush on Sherlock. Apparently, she was supposed to only be in the pilot but they kept her. I honestly wouldn’t have minded too much if she wasn’t a part of the show after that. But she is useful since she’s their connection to the morgue.
There are a lot of good jokes in Sherlock but they’re not one-liners. The jokes usually involve your understanding of the characters, which is great. The banter is also fantastic.
My series finale theory:
I assumed the finale would go like this. He’d shoot the vest and nothing would happen. Maybe it was a fake bomb the whole time. While writing this, I know what happens but I’m not gonna tell you. I will save that for the series 2 discussion!
What did you think of Series 1? I’d love to hear your thoughts and talk with you! (Please no spoilers on future episodes for those who are not caught up.)
Ugly Betty Season 2 Discussion
Ugly Betty Season 2.jpgI just wanna get right to it. SPOILER ALERT for season 1 and season 2!
This season started on a fake out. What? You’re telling me Santos didn’t die? Where was the gun pointed?!  This is disappointing… (I actually felt let down because he wasn’t dead! I just thought that if he wasn’t, it would’ve been a lot of emotional buildup in the finale for nothing) but he was dead. Him being there for the first episode was the show’s way of saying goodbye. And that was nice.
Now let’s jump to the very end of this season. The season finale where I’m very disappointed with a lot of people. Alexis made Willie the editor and chief and Daniel got bumped down to a lesser job. And Hilda’s dating a married man. I don’t care if she’s sad and alone and he’s attractive. What’s wrong with you?!
Ahem. Well, in other love story news, Henry and Betty got together in this season and were a cute couple (yay! My shipper heart!) for a few episodes until the baby was born and he moved back to Tucson (boo! T_T).
I honestly wasn’t expecting the baby to be his. Darn you, writers. You wouldn’t even let them enjoy Wicked. Or Rudolph! You didn’t make their relationship easy. But I guess that’s one sign it wasn’t gonna work.
Also, a love triangle happened. Gio’s nice but I don’t think Betty liked him like that. This season ended on a  cliffhanger, but a predictable cliffhanger, I think. Right before Betty makes her decision, she has a dream about both guys and what her life would be like withCapture.PNG them. And as sad as I am to admit that a long distance relationship (or marriage) wouldn’t work for them, Betty would rather jump off a roof in her dream than pick one of them. That’s not a good sign. I think the trip she was packing for was some ‘finding yourself’ journey. Get away from guys for a while. No Greece, no Tucson, no NY. Bye, Benry, I’ll miss you and your awkward silences and habit of adjusting your glasses. (What would that be called?)
Betty doesn’t get a break from relationships ever, it seems. First, it was Walter, then it was Henry, now it’s Gio, soon it’ll be Daniel. This girl needs a break. I swear. No boys for a while, Betty. Gosh, just, no boys. Please? But yeah, I can still see Daniel and Betty being a thing. They had one episode where he thought she loved him and it was pretty funny, but eventually! It’ll happen! Baniel/Detty will be a thing that exists. Soon. Not now. But soon. I’m putting my (imaginary) money on this. I see it coming, my dad saw it coming from the very beginning. It will happen. The episode where he thought she loved him was played off as a joke because it doesn’t feel right, ATM. We’re just not there yet.
I don’t know if I’m anticipating that relationship because I want it to be over with, or I actually see them working as a couple?? Not sure how I feel about it yet. We’ll get there. Season 4. That’s my guess. Season 3 finale will be him warming up to the idea and realizing he kinda likes her. Then Betty will come along soon after.
And can I just say I’m a freaking psychic!? I didn’t talk about it much last time, but I predicted all that Henry baby drama before Charlie’s face was even shown!
That was my theory when they introduced Charlie: Henry and Charlie have a child and they got back together because of that. Then after a butt load of drama, Betty would come to understand the situation because her family knows about [pregnancy scares], but she’d still try to pursue Henry.
That’s basically what happened. Either I’m psychic, or I watch too much TV and I’m too familiar with the formula.
And Marc got a boyfriend! Oh my god, the relationships, people! I’m glad he dated a normal person. Cliff wasn’t around that much at the end so I don’t know if they’re still together, but hey. At least it happened. It gave him something else to focus on instead of evil soap opera plans.
Like, really? Yeah, just give birth to Bradford’s baby to gain control of the company, Willie. That’s great. And bring poor, desperate Christina into it too. That won’t make me hate you.
Speaking of which, Christina’s husband from Scotland finally showed up. And he’s dying. Of course, he is. And the surgery he needs is too expensive. Of course, it is. I’m kinda sad now…what’s a good thing that happened?
Oh! Betty’s dad became a citizen. That’s good. And Mrs. Meade got a magazine. I’m glad she’s important in the story now that she isn’t going to prison. I like her magazine idea and she seems to be good at “Mode”. Thumbs up for the parents this season.
Except Willie! I hope your evil plan doesn’t work! The only good thing that came out of that is Marc being at “Mode” again. Now he’s around Amanda all the time once more. They’re mean, but I like them. And it was sweet how Amanda came to terms with not knowing her father and realized Marc was her family.
Though, one thing I don’t like about that storyline: Amanda is Fey’s daughter (and thank god she wasn’t Bradford’s too. That would’ve been gross. Daniel flirting with Alexis when they first met I can come to terms with, but Amanda and Daniel being related would’ve been too far) But she had adopted parents. When she found this out, she acted like she was an orphan! Her biological mother is dead and she doesn’t know her father, sure. But did she not keep in mind the people who raised and loved her?
Justin Garbett, Reactions Editor monkey disappointed bummer bummed out
I know Christina will have problems involving not only her pregnancy but having the baby and giving it away. We know she’ll bond with the baby in a heartbeat. (That kid better be raised right, I swear. We’ve seen how Willie is with her child, so I’m nervous.) I feel really bad for Christina this season…
And…Daniel had girl problems again. His apartment and Betty almost got burned down because of it. Yikes! And we learned he has a son. I’m excited to see that in the next season. I’m looking forward to seeing him be a father and get to know DaniĂŠl Jr. Plus he’ll have to learn some French.
And to end this, here is my list of…
RANDOM THOUGHTS ON SEASON 2:
Where did she get this B necklace? Her mom?
Betty’s fashion sense has gotten better, and not that I think she shouldn’t be herself and whatnot, but why doesn’t Betty wear like, suits and stuff to work? She’s too casual. She’s gotten better since season 1 but some of the things she wears don’t make sense for a fancy magazine job. I meant to mention this before but that season 1 post was just too long.
I don’t know if I’m crazy or not, but halfway through the season, did they get a better camera or something? Everything looked clearer. Maybe it was my TV, I dunno.
Not sure which season I like more.
Betty inspired a “real girls runway” which would never happen in real life and people would hate it but oh, well. Message, people, it’s a message.
I was so worried in the beginning Henry wasn’t gonna be around that long, but then when I saw this season’s poster I thought, “But he’s on the poster. If he wasn’t a big part of the story, they wouldn’t put him in front of Daniel’s parents, right?!”
Poor Bradford… ;(
